You are right. The NIC / driver is Atheros AR9485.
I was running Kubuntu 19.10 and things work great, including the internet. But as the support ran out, I was forced to move on. I chose Ubuntu 20.04 with KDE installed. Worked fine. I ended up trying Kubuntu 22.04 whe I realized it was out. That's when the internet started acting squirrelly. I've got Slackware 15.0 installed at the moment and the internet is working fine.
I have an old machine, HP Pavilion G series. I would stay with Slackware as I've ran Slackware for years. But I have some older software that I enjoy running and the 15.0 version has some difficulties running them. (It's probably operator error)
In any case I wanted to try Kubuntu 22.04 but can't get the internet to stay running long enough to download updates or application packs. I looked it up online, thinking maybe the latest Kubuntu was just advanced for my old machine. However I came across several complaints and people smarted than me seem to think it was an issue with the new kernel. If it was kernel / software related, I was thinking someone might have updated it to correct the issue.
Thanks
