[ktown] Selecting Regional Settings crashes System Settings

Just trying Eric's ktown once again, on fully patched current.

I remember having a problem with Regional Settings before, although I think it was flickering and not doing much.

This time selecting Regional Settings crashes System Settings, and I get no chance to add a language. (British or Irish English)

/etc/profile.d/lang.sh:
Code:
export LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
As ever, many improvements, but regressions too. The KDE team do themselves no favours. Hard to believe people are pushing for Plasma's inclusion in Slackware when so fundamental a bug exists. What an impression that would give to a first-time user.

This is the first I remember hearing of this bug. Have you tried submitting a bug report to KDE devs?

Hello,

There's already a bug report. Apparently, upgrading to qt 5.14 partly solves the issue (see comments #20 and #22).

Eric provided a workaround in his blog: https://alien.slackbook.org/blog/upd...#comment-37223

Code:
Looks like the theming engine may have an issue.
Try running System Settings this way, using the ‘material’ theme, from a terminal prompt:

$ QT_QUICK_CONTROLS_STYLE=Base systemsettings5

In this case, the window theme looks a bit different but the application no longer crashes and I can apply changes.
Works for him and for me.

Yep, saw that earlier. Thanks.

Should catastrophic bugs like this be happening 25 years after KDE was first released? Imagine simply selecting Regional and Language Settings in Windows Control Panel and it crashes. Every single time.
