When are they going to realize that there is no valid reason for punishing people for what they think or expressing those thoughts in a nonviolet manner?
hey sorry but thats nothing else than a sterotype in germany there are only some older and some stupid people left thinking to be a nazi is cool so it would be the same if i say usa is a country whose government lies to their people, which attacks poor small countries to test new weapons and searches some stupid reason and so on
you know what i mean?
Although I disagreed with you profoundly about the justice of market regulation, I have to agree with you here. It's a shame that in Europe freedom of speech is not taken seriously. People must be allowed to express the full range of beliefs without fear of government repression unless the supposed upholders of the law are hypocrits.
The Germans who think this law is okay will have no leg to stand on when a different government comes to power and decides some other belief or expression is forbidden.
It so happens that I believe freedom of speech and the right to exchange ideas openly without fear of reprisal are fundamental to any fair and just society.

have you ever been to europe???
btw the site Kurt M. Weber was pasting above doesnt look very serious all those stuff is bad translated or doesnt fully show the facts ...
do you really want to let nazis speak free what they want to? i dont because it doesnt matter in which country they life, there are nazi like groups in usa, england, france ... too but it does matter that it has to be under reprisal to think some people have the right to life and others dont ...
The guy could get 3 years? We have criminals in the U.S. who don't get that much time for much more serious offences, like rape. If that law existed here whole groups would be in serious trouble, like the White Supremists and the KKK. Nobody likes the KKK but they still get to talk. For that matter the police have to protect them so they don't get mobed when they talk. I admit I don't like people who do things like that. I don't want anyone like Hitler back, but 3 yrs?
I think that Kurt M Weber's thread should be closed down immediately. It is pointless. Clearly he has NO point of view of his own. Trawling the web for gutter press "stories" and then posting them in the hope that you appear to be well-informed and in-touch is so f*^%ing boring. What EXACTLY is Kurt M Webers point? That we should be able to come to Linux forums and mouth off about any old rubbish that we want - regardless of who might be offended? Why did he wish to post this thread here? Surely there are more suitable "unsuitable" forums? We in Europe DO have freedom of speech. We have accepted that NOBODY should have the right to incite racial/cultural etc violence. Shame on you!!! Remove this thread! Where is it going?

May I remind you that this is the General forum, where members can post anything that isn't Linux related.
As I stated before, be careful on such topics and lets not let this thread get out of hand. But he is entitled to create such threads as long as they are not breaking our rules on this site.
If you don't like members starting threads in General, well, skip over them, ignore them and or don't reply to them.

Wrong. I'm trying to find out why people (stupidly) think that it's alright to punish someone for what he thinks.

That, too, is false.

No, it's bringing attention to an important issue. And whether or not the story is true, it certainly brings attention to an important issue--namely, Germany's unjust banning of the expression of Nazi beliefs.

No--this server is private property and the owner has every right to dictate what can and cannot be said here. My point is that no one should be punished by law for stating a belief as long as he does so nonviolently.

To start a discussion on this topic.

Giving a salute...or even holding the beliefs...is not inherently violent.
Does it matter? Does it affect the fundamental question at hand--namely, that Germany (stupidly and wrongly) bans even the nonviolent expression of a certain political ideology?
