Recover files after installation.

Hi everyone. Any advice with this issue:

1. I had linux zorin installed
2. Certain day boot failed
3. Linux mint was installed
4. After that no further action has been taken

Question: What methods or tools could I use to recover the files I had before installing mint? Thanks for your help.

You could try photorec.

Way to many unknowns - was this a single partition or multiple, was encryption in use ...

In the case of unencrypted, you should be able to use something like photorec to scan for your data. Best to limit the scan to files you aer interested in - photos or documents say.
Of course anything overwritten by the later install is gone forever.

Try "TestDisk" or check out this link: https://itsfoss.com/recover-deleted-files-linux/

Or if you just installed the OS on another partition but never format, try any Distro of Linux Live CD.
