Black screen with cursor after successful Debian installation

Hey everyone I could use some help. I just installed Debian with Xfce and after GRUB ended up at a blank screen with cursor at the top left. And it feels like this is a display problem. I'm running Debain on the latest Intel NUC that has an integrated AMD graphics card. I tried the nomodeset in GRUB but made no difference.

I managed to login via terminal, ran startx and got:

parse_vt_settings: Cannot open /dev/tty0 (Permission denied)

# uname -a
Linux ERIK-PC 4.19.0-8-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.98-1 (2020-01-26) x86_64 GNU/Linux

Can anyone help me?

I am not sure if my experience is any useful.

I would check X.org log.
I guess your log in is via /dev/tty0, if so that error may be irrelevant.
