Black screen with a waiting cursor after boot... Debian won't start!

Hello guys,
I've installed debian 7 via USB using netinst. It installed alright but after booting it ends up with a black screen with a waiting cursor. The only thing I can do is move it. Ctrl+alt+f1 won't work. In fact it won't take any command.
I used Ubuntu 12.04 before where I had to change a command in grub to nomodeset for booting. I use asus x50gl ...
Please help!

It might be your window manager--maybe it needs to be configured. What window manager are you using? What does your .xsession look like?

Hi there, I'm having exactly the same problem. Just installed debian 7.1 wheezy, everything seemed to go right, but after the grub screen, just got that black screen with the movable waiting cursor...Did you guys find a solution out? I'm totally new on debian. For info, my pc runs a Nvidia Geforce 9800GX2 graphic card (dual GPU) with 2 monitors going out of it. Can the problem be related to that in someway? Thanking you in advance for any (very welcome) help !
