No. I have 2 Bluetooth USB adaptors. After nothing I could do would get the first working I tried the second and gave up on the first.

When I was writing the post to say this and mark this thread as solved Pedroski piggybacked onto it at the same time so it didn't get published. I decided to let it ride and did what I could to help Pedroski at the risk of confusing his problem with mine.

The thread you reference is a different question using my second Bluetooth adaptor, which comes up and detects my cellphone but drops all connections immediately; the cellphone also shows no sign of detecting the Bluetooth adaptor though it detects the occasional passerby's, as does the computer's.

I apologize for the confusion.

If you look now, you should find your bluetooth works.

After an update yesterday, and a reboot this morning, I have 2 bluetooth icons and the adaptor is found! Works fine now. Ubuntu must have changed something, which is what I thought might happen.

I don't. I own this thread, but you overtook it after I lost interest, so I'll mark it as solved! in respect to your success.
