Xfce for Slackware Users

I gave up on trying different GTK3 themes. I have yet to find a theme that works properly. I set clearlooks-classic for GTK2 and stick with Adwaita for GTK3.

Xfce has come a long ways in recent years.
It took me a while to find a theme I could live with and applications to replace what I liked in KDE, but I've finally reached the point I don't miss KDE-4 at all.
XScreensaver works just fine (turn off screen controls in the Xfce power management plug-in).
XnView MP is a great improvement over Gwenview, gThumb, etc.
Mousepad, with a tweak, replaces Kwrite (and LibreOffice for everything else related.)
Midnight Commander for a file manager. Thunar is OK, but, on rare occasion I still fire up Dolphin. BTW, Konquerer was once the file manager (in KDE).
Xfce Terminal to replace Konsole.
Catfish is a file search app and can be combined with Thunar.
Adobe Reader to replace Okular.
Aisleriot for solitaire.
I do miss yawp.
Oh, and during the Holidays there is always XSnow.

Plus there have been some incremental improvements to various Xfce apps.
And, more often than not, I use the editor built-in to Midnight Commander rather than open Mousepad or any other editor.
Master-pdf-editor-4 also works well, but the Adobe Reader is enough for my needs.
For a web browser I use Pale Moon about 90% of the time, but occasionally fire up Firefox and, on rare ocassion, Opera-12.6. I really miss the "old" Opera.
I'm sure I'm missing something.....

This might be useful to review if you like mousepad and you are a SlackBuild maintainer. Automatic bash syntax highlighting for .SlackBuild, .info, and slack-desc files. This feature of mousepad is controlled by the gtksourceview3 dependency.

It does not work so well for a slack-desc, but it does separate the header comments a bit and make it easier to read. Sure, you can go to the Document menu -> File Type -> Script -> and select "sh". This way is faster and you can set it and forget it along with your theme.

I vaguely remember seeing that in Slackware 14.1 with the previous version of Xfce. In 14.2 sessions and auto starts work as expected in Xfce.

Medit or geany, are the editors i keep recommending to everyone. Faenza xfce, faenza-icon-theme, dark-aurora-gtk-theme, gtk-theme-Albatross are a few themes i like (all available in slackbuilds).

Xfce is a flexible, modular desktop, and it is easy for everyone to customize it to his needs and preferences.

So, a vanilla xfce is the best way for the user to start with this desktop.

At the moment I am running Slackware64-current on 6 PCs. I am not seeing this bug. Thanks for the heads-up.

for Xfce? You may wish to check the Xfwm-themes from Slackware 14.1. I have them compiled and installed on Slackware 14.2 and it all works fine:

there is a old kde-3.5 theme entitled, Eazel-Blue, but that is all I've found so far....

Thanks for looking - I found that, too. But, again, it doesn't match what I'm looking for - and it maybe that my "memory" of eazel-blue is just that of some other theme I tried. I just remember that the title in the window-bar was in a bubble or an oval and I want to say the bubble was in the inverse coloring of the window-bar and possibly not centered left to right. Shoot, for all I know I could be conflating it with another DE I've used over the years (doubtful, as I've pretty much stayed with XFCE for all of my time in Slackware, which is all of my time in Linux).

Well,I did use KDE earlier, but dumped it when they started using akonadi.

I've also used CDE in IBM/AIX and Sun/Solaris years ago - but I don't think that's it either. Maybe I should just learn how to create my own theme, or add this to an existing theme

Hmm, it might be time to get some Slackware users/dev.'s on the Xfce team, they have several Xubuntu members on the board, could act as a nice counter balance/sanity check.
