2018 LinuxQuestions.org Members Choice Award Categories

It's almost time for the 2018 LinuxQuestions.org Members Choice Awards. As in previous years, we'll start with the categories and then move to nominees in those categories before we finally open voting. For a reminder, here are the categories from 2017:

Quote:
Desktop Distribution of the Year
Server Distribution of the Year
Live Distribution of the Year
Lightweight Distribution of the Year
Database of the Year
Browser of the Year
Desktop Environment of the Year
Window Manager of the Year
Audio Media Player Application of the Year
Digital Audio Workstation of the Year
Video Media Player Application of the Year
Video Authoring Application of the Year
Network Security Application of the Year
Host Security Application of the Year
Network Monitoring Application of the Year
IDE of the Year
Text Editor of the Year
File Manager of the Year
Open Source Game of the Year
Programming Language of the Year
Backup Application of the Year
Log Management Tool of the Year
X Terminal Emulator of the Year
Browser Privacy Solution of the Year
Privacy Solution of the Year
Open Source File Sync Application of the Year
IRC Client of the Year
Universal Packaging Format of the Year
Single Board Computer of the Year
Virtualization Application of the Year
Container of the Year
Orchestrator of the Year
Linux/Open Source Podcast of the Year
Secure Messaging Application of the Year
Video Messaging Application of the Year
Vector Graphics Editor of the Year
Linux Desktop Vendor of the Year
Email Client of the Year
Proposals:

* Remove Lightweight Distribution of the Year as it's difficult to define well.
* Rotate Vector Graphics Editor of the Year for Raster Graphics Editor of the Year
* Add Linux Server Vendor of the Year

There are a couple other categories that are likely in need of a refresh or due to be rotated out. Thoughts?

Are there enough "Linux server vendors" which don't have other operating systems to pick from?

Also, probably "privacy solution" and its subset "browser privacy solution" could be merged together.

I beg to differ on the latter point. I feel that the breadth of each category is wide enough to keep both.

Possibilities? (just throwing these out there without reference to previous years)

Archiver application
Office application
Dock application
Encryption application
Bootable USB (ISO) creator application
Desktop tool [this could well be enormous but would be intended as a catch-all for those applications not falling into other categories - it might throw up some interesting applications]
Online storage solution
PDF management application
VoIP application

Comparing desktop tools (as a generic category) would be unfair as some are inherently more useful for most people than others.
