Why can't I specify a GMT offset with timeconfig in RHES3

We've just built a couple of proliants with RH ES3, and we've got to change the timezone on these boxes to GMT+6 (instead of asia/colombo).

However, using timeconfig, I don't see any of the usual Etc/GMT timezones that we used to have available in redhat 7.3...

Redhat phone support weren't much help.

I've tried editing the /etc/sysconfig/clock to manually point to the Etc/GMT+6 file, but to no avail....

*pulls out hair*

any help would be much appreciated
