virtual image file


i know that there r susposed to be a version of redhat that u can run on windows xp with out having to install anything...sort of an image file u boot too...


its susposed to be called virtual machine or something...where can i find this OS for downloading...and whats the complete name of this invention...tnx

AFAIK redhat has never been able to install into an image. Some, like Mandrake used to do this, but it was always a bit of a novelty. this would not invole virtual machines though. using a virtual machine, like vmware, you can install *ANY* operating system inside it. i think you've got a bunch of different bits of kit mixed together

If you are wanting to try out Linux without having to affect your existing Windows installation, I'd recommend trying a LiveCD such as Knoppix. You can boot it up fom the CD and do many of the things you'd normally do with a full installation (including mounting/reading your existing Windows hard drive(s)), and just take out the CD and reboot when you want to go back to Windows.
