USB Mouse not working - kernel 2.6.12.2

Hi,
My PC, running a kernel - 2.6.12.2 seems to be having some problems. One of those is the mouse. After my logon screen, the cursor stays in the middle of the screen. Moving the mouse has no effect on the cursor. Can someone help me in correcting this? My mouse is a USB mouse from Dynex. Maybe some of my settings in the .config are not right?
Thank you.
