Okay, I have a Compaq Presario with a Compaq USB keyboard. I used to have Mandrake and it worked fine so I'm sure that my hardware is functioning correctly. I've decided to dump Mandrake for RedHat 8 (came on a CD in a linux book I got for Xmas).
I pop the cd in and it prompts me to hit enter to do a graphical instal, I hit enter, the keyboard works, graphical install starts fine. But once I'm in the graphical install the keyboard stops functioning. I borrowed my parents PS/2 keyboard to finish the install. Then I reboot, I have a duel boot with Windows 2000 and in GRUB the USB keyboard works fine, I arrow down to linux and start RedHat. While RedHat is starting kudzu pops up and recognizes that I have a new keyboard, I figure hey, it see's my USB keyboard, I'll get it configured and all will be well
. So it asks me what type of keyboard it is and I say 'us', linux finishes booting up, but then I get like 100 messages scrolling down my screen that say 'usb_control/bulk_message: timeout' and of course my USB keyboard doesn't work
. So I reboot, the USB keyboard no longer works in GRUB and I always get 100 or so of those timeout messages every time I boot.
I looked through my book, I went to the library and looked through every linux book they had, and all of them just assume your keyboard works. I can only borrow my parents keyboard for so long, does anyone know how I can fix this problem??
p.s. I'm a
to linux so go easy
