starting httpd upon boot

Hi,

I recently removed the default install of Apache and tried installing it myself, with much success. I am wondering however, how do enable httpd to start as a service upon booting so I don't have to manually start the server everytime I log in?

Thank you very much.

kinda confused on what your asking, but if you are asking how to add a startup script you could add it to the rc.local file I believe if you added it there it would work .... or is sysinit that you want to add it to??? someone wanna correct me ?

But somthing along the lines or adding it to the correct file
like /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd start

I think that will get the deamon going if you drop it in the rc.local but again I cant think well right now.

You can also enable or disable services with
Code:
redhat-config-services

Hi all, sorry so long to reply.

chkconfig httpd on says that apache is not supported by chkconfig. I did install it from source and does not show up in the list on redhat-config-services. This seems like a relatively easy operation but the process is alluding me. Any continued advice is appreciated.

One thing you want to do is use the package manager that comes with a particular distribution if at all possible. If you still have the sources, I would, in a terminal, change back to that directory and try running
make uninstall

Then I would install an apache rpm

If you need to install an app from source I would use checkinstall
http://proyectos.glo.org.mx/checkinstall/

apt-rpm is a good way to install rpm's and satisfy dependencies
