Question Soundcard problems

I'm extremely new to linux, i dont know how to recompile the kernel & stuff like that.

I have a C-Media 8738 soundcard, which works, but, i only hear sounds in 2 speakers and i have 5:1 system. I've read something in the driver readme about modules configuration.

" Some functions for the cm8738 can be configured in Kernel Configuration
or modules parameters. Set these parameters to 1 to enable.

speakers: Number of speakers used.

how can i edit these modules, where can i find them, do i need to reinstall the driver ?

pls help.
