running phpmyadmin

Hello

I have just set up a new RH 8 install and it works like a dream .
apache php mysql all work fine . But off course i cant get phpmyadmin running .
The error message is this..

cannot load MySQL extension,
please check PHP Configuration.

Now I have been through this before and I know that a file called mysql.so should be sitting somewhere < where ? >

i used to download an RPM from RH something called phpmysql ..

But the last time I did this i destroyed my system . and it was back to windows again as I need a running system ..

I dont want this to happen again and especially not use windows ANYMORE

Can somebody put me on the right track please or send me the mysql.so file

I intend to use the phpMyAdmin-2.5.5-rc2 which i just downloaded

regards
phil

sorry about that

sorry about the double post I thought I could have made an initial mistake in my forum choice.
My Mistake and it wont happen again double sorry !!!!!!

as far as reading the Manuel goes.. all I can find about it is that the problem is usually fixed by downloading php-mysql RPM or something like that

I did this last time and got a kernel panic message at boot and the system just hung there useless like

I rekon one version either php or mysql or apache was not compatible ( older or newer )

This is why I dont want to install any thing i am not sure about

from what I understand i am simply missing a file called mysql.so which should be sitting in a specific directory (where I dont know. ..)

somebody sent me this once but of course i lost it.

I can run mysql from a terminal and php is running fine .

what ill do NOW is check the exact versions i have running with my RH 8 of
< php / apache / mysql >

then i would like to run phpmyadmin version 2.5.4

sorry for the hassle guys just trying to wean away from nasty M$ nice and smothely

have a nice day phil81

Ok , Try This

Ok phil81 , Try This Way :
you said :
--------------------------------
apache php mysql all work fine
----------------------------------------
Just Download PhpMyAdmin from here :
http://www.phpmyadmin.net/home_page/

Then Extract it in this Dir :
/var/www/html
Then run it as :
http://localhost/Folder_Name

I think it will be work well .
Some times you have to run this command befor :
service mysqld start

Hi there

Firstly your english is fine and I understand you well enough

I did what you said but its basically what i did before
I still get the same error message

cannot load MySQL extension,
please check PHP Configuration.

this means that it cant find mysql.so

could you look for this file on your system and send it to me < and tell me where it should go>

please

thanks freind

Thumbs up email

Hi there thanks for the help

my email is contact@acrea81.com.

Im sure this will work.

Im using RH 8 which I bought last year . RH 9 was not out yet

It does what i need it to do fine enough

I like the 8 it suits me but I might invest in the 10 when it comes out

I install mandrake 9.1 for people who want to quite windows that works quite nice and you can even make it look like XP

regards
phil

OK
I am posting this message because I finally found the sollution to getting phpmyadmin
running with
RH 8

first download and install in this order
from here :

http://www.redhat.com/swr/i386/php-m...7.i386_dl.html

php-4.2.2-17.2.src.rpm

php-mysql-4.2.2-17.i386.rpm

php-mysql-4.2.2-17.2.i386.rpm

this does the trick

great one and have a happy new year
