I have a good working installation of RHEL 5.3 on one partition. Recently I installed RHEL 4u5 on another partition. Both use KDE as DT managers. Now I can boot into RHEL 4u5 as a user (and also do su -), but when I attempt root login at the GUI, I get message 'root login not permitted'.
dear friend, thanks for the info. however on another pc i have the same installation, and there's absolutely no problem in root login at kde gui. BTW, ssh or telnet login for root is definitely a security risk and is usually disallowed by default. the issue still remains. i'm sure it is some config entry which is responsible. am still looking for the answer.
