RHEL AS4 SMP boot very slow with 4GB memory

Hi:

Recently I assemble a new machine with following basic stuff
1) Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz.
2) Adata 1G x 4 DDR2-800 Memory
3) WD 500G SATA

I installed 32bit RHEL AS 4 update 4. The installation was quick
smooth and two kernels SMP and no-SMP are installed. But the
SMP kernel boot very very slow, it took 30+ minutes. While the
no-SMP kernel boot very quickly (1- minute).

Some days before I installed the same OS on a machine with 512Gbx4 mem,
both kernels work well. So is there any problems or limiation for RHEL
AS 4u4 SMP on 4GB memory ?? or anything else? How to fix this?

Another issue is on the no-SMP kernel, the memory I can see using
"cat /proc/meminfo" is 3107836 Kb, no 4Gb, I read some online reference
and find this is probably casued by 32bit system or hardware limiation,
does anybody here have any experience on this issue?

Any comment/suggestion are appreciated in advance.

Regards.

Can you paste the output of dmesg after a reboot?

Regards,

Hi:
Sorry to be late. Since it's not convenient to restart
the machine on SMP kernel. Here is the output of "dmesg"
on no-SMP kernel. Is this okay?

Thanks in advance.
