RHE - install packages?

Greetings,

I have used suse, mandrake, debian in the past - I am trying to get a RHCT cert so I installed red hat enterprise. (i have a support license for it)

Where is the package installer? Im looking and up2date seems to be able to install a small number of packages... is that it though? with RHE are you limited to a small number of well-tested packages?

With the other distros, you hit up either a gui or command line package installer with tons and tons of available software... (yast, apt-get, synaptic, etc.) They ususally all solve dependancies too..

redhat / fedora users always end up using apt or yum.

I believe it usually best use apt or yum. The Redhat package tool isn't very good if you would like to access a lot more packages .

"RHE are you limited to a small number of well-tested packages? "

Remember, the Enterprise versions of the software are not going to have "bleding edge" stuff included, so yes the packages on Red Hat Enterprise Linux may show an older version in comparison to the latest greatest thing out there. However.... many of the changes in the newer versions of certain software are backported to the Red Hat Enterprise versions of the packages.

"With the other distros, you hit up either a gui or command line package installer with tons and tons of available software... (yast, apt-get, synaptic, etc.) They ususally all solve dependancies too.."

up2date solves all dependencies as well....
