Red Hat 7.1 light?

I have install redhat 7.1. It works for the most part excepth for a few really anoying things.
This distro is also using 190mb of ram out of 192mb. Should it be using this much memory?
Well, Im thinking of stripping this distro down instead of installing another distro.
After Im finished with the strip down, where shoudl I go and how would I manually update
the core components? Im wanting to stay with the current kernal, but would like
to increas its speed while decreasing Red Hats size. Is'nt that
the point of linux? Highly custom and streamlined. Who needs
a Windblows imitation of the bloat and gloat. Im not trying to
out down Red Hat(wich is a great distro for business and research)
Im just trying to make this great distro more freindly to older hardware.
Yea I could install a smaller distro, but where the fun in that?
Basicly, Im just asking for advice on where to start. Thanks

Use the package manager to uninstall EVERYTHING you don't use. Also use a light window manager like XFce or Fluxbox or IceWM.
