problem with downloading files for Red Hat 9

I am making the windows to linux jump(i am new to the whole thing), but I am having two problems. First of all, i tried downloading fedora core and it worked. The problem is that my computer will not boot from disc 1 in the cd rom even if i tell the computer from the boot menu to boot from it. After i played around with that for a while and couldnt figure anything out, i looked for red hat 9. The only place that i can find to download it is from linux.org. my problem there is that i dont know which files to download from the directory to actually install red hat.
any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
zach

Welcome to LinuxQuestions!

A common error is not burning the CD correctly. Windows can not natively create a bootable CD from an ISO image. If using Nero or Roxio then you must select "Create CD from ISO image" You can download a free ISO burning utility like isorecorder. Also extracting the files then burning will not create a bootable CD either. Stick with Fedora. Redhat 9 is old and does not have support for newer hardware such as SATA.
