problem in reading files in reiserfs filesystem

Hi,

I am creating backup on reiserfs filesystem on Redhat 8.0. This filesystem is nfs mounted from AIX box. After the backup is done the we put this disk on another Debian box and restore the backup from there to another AIX box.
We are facing problem in reading the disk on Debian box. It read some files and then starts giving error s ( i think seek errors ). Then the debian system hangs. We have to rebbot the box .

Now what is the problem. Can we read files or disk, created on RH, on Debian system ? IS it a diffrent kernel issue or its bad disk issue ??

Thanks

VK

There should be no problem. In fact, not the RH system wrote the files. The disk was in AIX machine, so they were written by AIX. It may be bad disk, but also Reiser implemnetation incompatibility between AIX and Linux (I haven't heard about such thing, however).

Thanks for your reply but..

Thanks for your reply. But we have been doing this for last many years but the only change is at source we changed the debian box to redhat and but destination we still have debain box. At both the places we mount the disk on linux box onto AIX box via nfs and do backup and restore respectively.
I will try using other disk and see what happens?
Thanks

Yes, It's a good idea to try another disk.
