A few months ago, I posted here a question regarding the possibility to mail the system logs to an outsider mail address (like one at yahoo or any other mail service) so I could check those form work.
The problem is this: I have set up a small home server which is an internet router, ftp server, file server and print server for a maximum of 8 simultaneous users. Since I cannot check every time I'm at home the system logs, I'd like the computer to send me on a daily base those logs to my (extern) e-mail account. Now my question obviously is: How do I do that?? or if it is even possible to do that? (I imagine it should be possible).
I'm almost certain that in order to do that I must properly set sendmail to be able to contact foreign e-mail services and cron or at to handle the daily process of sending them. The logs could be the body of the mail messages, and obviouly it would be futile to send the whole log of say XFree86.0.log or the messages log file, instead I was thinking of sending the
tail of those very long logs, (leaving out the XFree86.0.log, since the computer has no X
)
Any advice or pointing to any useful howto would be swell (I tend to be a very lousy googler and to date been uable to find anything at tldp.org)
Thanks in advance, Thetargos.
