let me start by saying a couple of things. first off, i installed rh9 only a day ago having never ventured from the windows world in all my years of computing. needless to say at this point im totally confused and in pretty much over my head. however, i really hope to get the hang of it and am intrigued by the linux world. also, i have been searching around the internet a lot trying to figure this out on my own.
all that said, i cant get rh9 to recognize my wpc11. i followed the instructions on this page linux.oldcrank.com/tips/wpc11/ to a t and it didnt work. when i try to activate the card it says "orinoco_cs device eth1 does not seem to be present, ...". i understand these procedures are for rh8, so maybe its different for 9?
im really hoping to get this to work. i dont want to get frustrated on my first linux attempt and have to give up and go back to windows on my laptop.
Try looking at http://www.linux-wlan.com/linux-wlan/index.html
The card is posted as working with the ng drivers.
I've just spent a couple of hours getting the netgear MA101 USB wireless device working under redhat 9 and, though it may be frustrating at first, keep at it. It works flawlessly now (not with this driver though as it's a different chipset).
You may have to learn a bit about networking to add a default route etc. but that is another thing. The latest redhat-config-network guis should help you out there.
wpc11 are tricky, I had to disable PCMCIA card before installing unix, I have not tryd to enable it since then, and I have like 7 CD ROMS on my Desktop and I have only 1, ahahaaha, SUSE's strange at list of my FX 340.
did all that and installed the driver. things seemed to go as per the instructions, though some sections confused me and i had to stumble through them. by the end though i didnt know what i was supposed to do next and the card still isnt working. tricky stuff. one part confused me most. in the readme it says "Now, everything relevant exists in /etc/wlan/*", cept i dont have that folder.
