Question Lilo problems useing Promise raid card with no arrays

I have an ASUS A7V133 Motherboard that has a built in Promise Raid (chip PDC20265R)

- All 4 devices on the main primary and secondary IDE buss are CDroms
- I have one hard drive on the Primatry Promise ATA100 buss with WinXP
- and another on the secondary Promise ATA100 buss with Redhat 9

Problem:
When I Select WindowsXP from lilo I get the fallowing lilo error message:

Starting WindowsXP
L?

[Frozen even cnt-alt-del doesnt work, I must hit the reset button]

My /etc/lilo.conf file is:

prompt
timeout=50
default=RedHat9
boot=/dev/hdg
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
message=/boot/message
linear

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.20-8
label=RedHat9
initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.20-8.img
read-only
append="hdf=ide-scsi root=LABEL=/"

other=/dev/hde1
label=WindowsXP
table=/dev/hde

I have also tried using the NTLDR boot manager using these instructions
http://216.239.57.104/search?q=cache...hl=en&ie=UTF-8

The NTLDR loads:

LI

According to the lilo error message descriptions located here:
http://www.europe.redhat.com/documen...WTO/a1405.php3

This is due to a "geometry mismatch" which i dont fully understand.

I am not sure if this has anything to do with the fact that I am using a promise raid controller with no defined raid arrays but I cant seem to resolve this problem.

Thanks for the help!

Howzit

try doing the following and see what happens boot from CD#1 then at the prompt type linux rescue mount the drives and fill in all quetions asked. then cd /mnt/sysimage and run lilo -v this will reinstall or update lilo and piont it to the right sector. once that has been done can test lilo by using lilo -t and will tell u if config file is correct or not.

If the above doesn't work then follow the above steps until cd /mnt/sysimage then do /sbin/grub-install this will install grub instead of lilo. A little better because if any changes to hardware etc u will not need to reinstall grub as it pionts to a file and not the physical sector of HDD

Good luck
