Angry IBM JDK 5. in RHEL throwing heap dump

The standalone java daemon program that generates PDF reports using for run under Linux (RHEL5-U1-x86_64-20080117) platform having WebSphere JDK 1.5 with service pack SR9 is often writing heap dumps, core dumps, snaps shots and GC accumulation resulting in outofmemory issues that cause the services to hang without processing any pdf request. Can anybody help me to understand the linux compatability of this IBM JDK version since i am not facing any problem in the Solaris/Aix IBM JDK.

JVM Settings:

"-Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -Xnoloa -Xgcpolicy:gencon"

JDK Version

java version "1.5.0"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition
IBM J9 VM (build 2.3, J2RE 1.5.0 IBM J9 2.3 Linux x86-32 j9vmxi3223ifx-20090225 (JIT enabled)

Is there any reason not to install Sun's 1.6 version?

We have our classes compiled in the JDK 1.5, but we do not have any issues in deploying it in Sun JDK.. but would this resolve the problem?

With Thanks

I can not tell you that, sorry. I do not have much Java experience.

There is only one way to find out. Set some disposable unit or virtual machine and try on Sun's 1.6.0 JDK *Try with both 1.5 and 1.6, but I think 1.6 should support 1.5 classes.
