please expand on that ? unsure of what you want?

do you mean you want to set up a private "intranet" repo for a group of machines ?
if so consult your PAID for support .

also this is covered in the red hat documentation
https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/...erprise_Linux/
-- local repo --
http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Re...epository.html

ok i think i know what you mean

first thing you do not want to be behind a router ( if so you need to manually set values in a config file)

if you are just connecting to the net with a "cable" set up then the net ( and yum) will auto set up )

click on the icon on the desktop that says "register" ( or something like that)

that will take you to red hat where you need to buy a license
RHEL is not free
a 1 year standard "license / support contract" is $299USD/PER YEAR

without a PAID for license you can not install software on RHEL5 -- "yum" WILL NOT WORK

once you do that you should be able to run the first update
Code:
su -
yum update

NO

if you do not intend on paying for red hat then do not use it .

There are free rebuilds of the source
CentOS 6.1 and ScientficLinux 6.1
install one of them

or buy a rhn license .

You may want to configure local repo server with packages from your Installer DVD.
1. copy the rpm files from DVD to one local directory
e.g /localrepo/rhel6/

2. create repo file at /etc/yum.repo.d/abc.repo
[Localrepo]
name=LocalRepository
baseurl=file:///localrepo/rhel6/
enabled=1
gpgcheck=0

3. createrepo -v /localrepo/rhel6

Done.

You can extend like step 1 you execute at server which is with http or ftp. step 3 need to do at server side too.
step 2 at client machine [yum client]
of course baseurl section will be with htttp:// or ftp://

Definitely, you are just creating your own yum repo server without update packages from redhat or centos.
For redhat, you need to buy subscription to download update package
For centos, you can even mirror with centos repository servers to your local repository server.
