help with ntp

I got ntp installed.

did a

Code:
ntpdate -u some.ntp.server1
It went through and well

then i created my own /etc/ntp.conf even when one exists.

Code:
server some.ntp.server1
server some.ntp.server2

driftfile /etc/ntp.drift
logfile /var/log/ntp.log
restarted ntpd, then i tried

Code:
ntpdate
It said "no server can be used, exiting".
I tried "ntpdate -u some.ntp.server1" and it went through.

I also found out something very funny. I tried to do

Code:
ntpdate some.ntp.server1
It said "NTP socket is in use, exiting"

I set my firewall to "no firewall", still doesn't work.
Any idea where went wrong ?

I didn't see anything go wrong. You can't use ntpdate while ntpd is running, of course, so if you want to use ntpdate you'd need to stop ntpd. (I prefer ntpd to set the date for me and keep it maintained.)
