Hate Windows but Linux is giving me problems

I was running Red Hat 9 and was getting Seg Faults every time I compiled something. I figured I would restat fresh and reformat and reinstall everything. After installing Windoze and RedHat9, i still get compilation errors when I compile everything.

The funny thing is, after installin Windoze 2000, I have noticed in after only one day, I very slow network performance. I run netstat to see if I have any open connections and i notice that i have over 100 network connection to mail servers. Yep, I have the worms. I run windoze update and I have to install 35 critical updates.

Red Hat is better because there is nothing to update for basic security but I mean, no one knows how to fix a seg fault error. Can someone help me before I go nuts. I know its a memory/hardware issue but every forum, no one knows how to fix it. All I have been getting for responses is "It worked fine on my computer", I DONT CARE ABOUT YOUR COMPUTER!!

Thanks in advance.

If your post more details about your setup, hardware used, exact error messages, it could be more helpful in determining your problem.

Indeed. It could be that you have bad memory that Winbl^H^Hdows simply isn't noticing, but that compiling stuff on Red Hat is falling all over.

it may be a hardware problem, i had RedHat 9 on my old MSI 5182 ALi mobo with an AMD K6-2 475mhz with a _tiny_ little heatsink and a very weedy fan.
i used to get seg faults all the time, whenever i did anything CPU-intensive.
after upgrading my mobo to a Giga-Byte GA7ZXE with a Duron 950 (yes, i am that behind the times ) my problems disappeared, no more lockups, no more seg faults, and i could recompile my kernel without having to reboot and scan my hard drives 20 times during the operation.
and yes, with the old mobo/cpu windoze had the same problems, thing is with my new mobo/cpu its still exactly the same, crashes every 10 mins

EDIT: should this not be in the linux-redhat/linux-software forum, or if this is the case, maybe linux-hardware

Good point, moved to Redhat as its more suitable here. Might not actually be a hardware problem. Regards.
