Question Has the Redhat ntp time server off-line

Recently my RH9 installation has repeatedly booted with "ntpd: failed". I did not really follow up on it until the switch to daylight savings when my system failed to move the local time ahead by an hour.

A call to "ntpdate <a public ntpd server>" fixed it, but should I reconfigure my ntpd to use a public server (66.187.233.4) ? Has the Redhat public server switched off permanently since we are approaching the discontinuance date?

I just updated to fedora core 1 and am having the same trouble, it has to do with the firewall rules. When redhat 9 stopped connecting I had to stealth I think port 137 and add the ip....As soon as I figure out what the ip is I'll post the solution...

This evening it worked.

I guess the redhat ntp server was just down for awhile. I think I will switch to a public ntp server anyway.
