Question git installation question

Hi I am doing a Data Mining Project and I am using an Amazon Oracle AMI. The AMI uses Redhat5.

I try to get git on the server;however, I cannot get it to compile nor install using the source nor the rpm.

Is there a easy way that I just get the package to install and run.

My project is to the data mining but I would like some sort of source control.

I just need some thing simple and easy.

-thanks

Installing git : # yum install git-all

'git' is in the EPEL repository https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL

Compiling the system version : cd git-1.7.4.1/ && make prefix=/usr
&& su ; # make install
