ext3 volume empty after up2date kernel upgrade

Dear gurus,

I installed a new disk a couple of days ago. The new disk uses the ext3 file system. I updated my conf files and mounted my disk. No problems.

Yesterday I upgraded my kernel via up2date and all of a sudden my new disk is empty and read-only. I guess the new kernel lacks support for ext3. That seems kind of strange.

I have a RedHat 7.1 box with kernel-2.4.20-20.7

Please give my some advice. Do I have to compile my own kernel or what went wrong?

TIA,
/David

fstab:

LABEL=/ / ext2 defaults 1 1
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto,owner 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
/dev/hdc5 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/hdd1 /mnt/web ext3 defaults 2 1
