Error when updating Kernel

I am getting this error from up2date when trying to install the newest kernel

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/sbin/up2date", line 11, in ?
import rpm
ImportError: /lib/i686/librt.so.1: symbol __pthread_clock_settime, version GLIBC_PRIVATE not defined in file libpthread.so.0 with link time reference

What does it all mean ?

Solved this by removing the file librt.so.1
