Do you have these two lines in your vsftpd.conf file?

chown_uploads=YES
chown_username=something

I'm also having the same problem. Like Ammad, I changed the owner of /var/ftp/pub to ftp:ftp, I chmoded it to 777 (not great I know), added all of the following:

anonymous_enable=YES
local_enable=YES
write_enable=YES
local_umask=022
anon_upload_enable=YES
chown_uploads=YES
chown_username=ftp
anon_mkdir_write_enable=YES

I can connect to the server and the pub directory as anonymous but no uploads allowed. You'd think this would cover it. Any ideas?

Oops my apologies! In my post above, IT DOES WORK logging in as anonymous. All works perfectly. I realised that when checking I was logging in using a user account and that would NOT allow me to upload (which is fair enough).
