enabling Yum on RHEL 4

I am interested in enabling yum on RHEL4, also to add the nessasary repositories to get dependencies. Also, is there a good site to get a DVD Player for RHEL 4?

Thanks.

howzit

use the chkconfig --list |grep yum to check if it is enabled. If it says off then do the following chkconfig yum on this will enable yum the next time it u startup the machine. Then type service yum start this will start the service for u. U need not worry about the updates as there is a cron job that runs everyday to update your machine. If u would like to run it right away then run yum manually.

cheers

i ran yum... it gave me the usage screen..

i ran: chkconfig --list |grep yum

and it gave me:
yum 0: off 1: off 2: on 3: on 4: on 5: on 6: off

i restarted... ran yum update

it gave me:
Config Error: Insufficient repository configuration. No repositories Found/Enabled. Aborting.

i checked etc/yum.repos.d and it's empty

what do i do to make yum work?

i did service --status-all

and found at the very end:

Nightly yum update is enabled.

How do I force yum to update ? and how do i know if it actually updated?

into the yum.repos.d folder..

i executed: yum update

and still the same error:
[root@localhost etc]# yum update
Config Error: Insufficient repository configuration. No repositories Found/Enabled. Aborting.
