Arrow Changing the video card

First of all, I'm a complete newb to Linux. I have a Tri boot install of XP/Redhat on hdb and Mandrake 9.1 on hdd. I have an ATI Rage Pro 8MB video card that I want to take out and put in the brand new Nvidia FX 5600.

Is it as simple as taking out the old, putting in the new and let redhat detect the new vidcard and then booting to mandrake and letting it do the same? Or do I have to edit some config file or something first?

I plan on switching monitors at the same time as well. Should I do each one at a time or all at the same time as the comptuer is shut off?

All help is greatly appreciated. TIA

You might as well do both at once since re-booting is for changing hardware or running a new kernel except for the popular OS.

You will need to install a driver for full use and reconfigure your X server.

Common X configuring tools:
Mandrake - XFdrake
Redhat 7.3 down - the setup utility leads to several config tools
Redhat 7.3 up - redhat-config-xfree86
You may have one or more of these tools:
XF86Setup
XFree86 -configure
Xconfigurator
xf86cfg
xf86config
xconf
ATI Linux drivers
If you need the nVidia driver, you want the Linux IA32 driver

I have a question on this same topic, a little different scenario though.

I have a GeForce4 Ti4400 installed in my system that is dual boot WinXP Pro and SuSE 8.2. I have the Nvidia drivers installed and 3d accelleration working just fine. I have a GeForce FX 5600 card that I want to put in. Since they both look like they will use the same drivers, can I just swap out the cards or should I un-install the Nvidia drivers and re-install them once the new card is detected??

Am I making this harder than it is??

KUDZU is much better than you would expect. Cross-fingers, flop_cards and puncher-up. 95% chance KUDZU will mutter_obscurely and then everything just works.
