hello everybody.

I have the following problem: I can't switch to a virtual console when loged into gnome (actually, i havn't tried from KDE).
Ctrl-Alt-F1, etc simply does nothing. And yes i tried all the keys (F1-F6), pressing them long and firmly, tried multiple times, tried other combinations of modifiers, tried right side modifiers, etc. pp....

Is it possible this is turned off somewhere? Or is something seriously b0rken? How can I find out? Is there an alternative way to switch?

Oh, i nearly forgot:
I'm running Gnome 2.2.0 on a RedHat 9 System. The WM is metacity (gnome default). Keyboard-Layout is German-NoDeadKeys. I experience the same promlem on my Laptop (same distro).

that is very strange as it should work the way u r typing in the keys. Goto a terminal through gnome and check your /etc/inittab file ans see if your virtual consoles r not hashed out (1-6). Another option try booting into text mode and see if u have virtual consoles available.

You may not have received the perfect solution, but at least you've got ppl trying to help you in that thread. If you think you posted your question in the wrong forum, think you have a better chance in another forum and bumping your thread doesn't get you the exposure and attention you think it needs, then next time please contact a mod. We could then move your thread to a forum of your choice (provided it doesnt clash with the forums purpose). Duplicating threads, for whatever reason (and no, there are no valid reasons), is heavily frowned upon. It is against the LQ Rules, it's considered bad netiquette on your part, a waste of resources on LQ's part and a waste of time for LQ members who take the time your question in *both* threads. Please do not do that again but instead ask us to move your thread.
