I've been struggling with using a Lexar "Jump Drive" USB flash memory device. I've been able to get it to work with my USB 1.1 ports, but I can't seem to mount it from any of the USB 2.0 ports.
When I mount it from one of the USB 1.1 ports, I use #mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/flash. Should the same command work for a USB 2.0 port?
Maybe what I need is a quick tutorial on what all those hundreds of devices in /dev are for. Why are there so many? Are they associated with different drivers? Are some specific to the USB 2.0 driver, and should I use them to mount the device?
thanks,
Bruce E.
P.S. Sorry - I probably should have said that I'm running RH 9.0. It's on a K7 Triton GA-7VA-C motherboard with the VIA KT333 chipset and an Athlon 2400 XP processor, if that makes any difference.

hm ... good question. I think they do, now that you mention it. I've moved the Hot Sync cradle for my PDA to one of the USB2 ports, and it still seems to work, although I'm not sure that the cradle is USB2 - it's from a Handspring Visor Deluxe, which is an older model, predating USB2, I think. Also, I might have plugged a USB mouse into a front USB2 port for testing once, but I'm not sure.
I'm on my way to work right now, and cant' check these out for certain, but I'll do so later and post the results.
If I'm right, though, and they do work, what would that mean about my USB2 ports? Why might they work only with USB1 devices (both the mouse and the PDA cradle)? The only devices that I know for sure are USB2 devices are my flash drive and a memory card reader, neither of which have worked in the USB2 ports.
I'll check the devices again tonight and post an update.
