Boot with second drive connected
I want an image (sort of a ghost) of my drive...
I tried raid1, not once , not twice, but over twelve time, with no luck....
NONE.... i get all kinds of boot errors like:
mounting /etc/mtab as read only
and
Updating /etc/fstab execvp: No such file or directory,
So, much as i hate to admit it, ive been beat........ the H#!! with raid
So, i thought about trusty dd .
So, first i did:
mak2fs /dev/hdc
And then:
dd if-/dev/hda of=/dev/hdc (two simular hd's)
That sort of works, And, with either drive connected, the machine WILL boot, BUT
if both are connected, i get errors just like i got with the raid setup.... and Lots of them.
My guess is that it has something to do with having TWO boot tracks, event though, when i boot from the rescue floppy, it only looks at /dev/hda6...
Can anyone tell me either what I'm doin' wrong, and/or, what my problem(s) is/are ??
(nothing personal pleasze........ im already aware of most of those issues)
redhat 9, no other os,. kernel 2.4.20-6, Using GRUB
thanks
