You have loaded the driver or known as module in linux for the fdo raid controller?
Is the module you have for the version of the kernel the installer using?
Post info like the module you have, is it on a floppy or cd, where you got it from, how you loaded it.

Downloaded the module file for the board from Asus. Again the module img disc are for specific distros and versions. Not one hundred percent sure here but RHEL4 and Centos4 used the same kernel. Centos4.3 use a newer kernel which would not allow the module to load in Centos4.3. That is what I see as to the issue. As to what to do I would look at using Centos5 and see if it loads the sata-via module from the anaconda installer. Or get the centos 4.0 ISO use the RHEL4 module disc and then you can upgrade the latest kernel of say 2.6.23.11 or maybe 2.6.24 but see some buggy issues in the 2.6.24 later. Some things promised in the beta builds and never came in the finally. The latest which covers the controller so you can then upgrade the rpms to centos 4.3 level if needed.
I recently built 10 systems with the Asus P5VD2-VM SE motherboard. I am running Windows, not Linux on any of these, but am having similar SATA and HD controller problems with all of them. I flashed the bios on a few of them, but so far, same problem.
They sometimes won't recognize the hard drive at POST.
They are getting HD controller errors in the event log.
I bet this is a hardware issue, not a Linux / driver issue. Please let me know if you find out the answer to this problem.

Not sure about being a hardware issue at the moment on the linux side. The op first needs to have a module which would be similiar to a Windows driver in order for the kernel to see the hardware and install to. Hopefully there is no big issue. Lets hope if it is that a bios update resolves issue like you are having.

I need new hardware. Most machines I use are 4 years old or older. Only thing I bought new recently is an Acer 9810 notebook. It is one nice huge notebook. More like a shelfbook to me. 20" screen. Got it at CompUSA closeout for 1/3 the orginal price.
