I can download various puppy distros and copy to CD ROM.
But when I try to run each fron the CD I have 'burned' its just skips past it to boot OS system.
Bios is set to 1st BOOT from CD ROM.
On the discs is all the info from the ISO download.
What am I missing out?

When you burn the CD you have to tell it to make it a bootable CD in whatever software you're using to do the burn. Otherwise it just looks like one large file.

Ok. Silly question now, perhaps, but.....what are you using to 'burn' it with? Whichever distro you're doing this in, you need to 'burn' the ISO file as an ISO.....not a 'copy' (as MensaWater says). When you 'burn' the ISO file the right way, what it does, in addition to copying the Puppy SFS and system files to CD, is to 'set-up' and 'activate' the syslinux/isolinux bootloader, and also set the CD's 'boot flag'.

You will need to specify, in whatever 'burner' software you're using, that you want a 'bootable' disc.

TBH, if you've 'burnt' the ISO to CD correctly, and have selected your CD/DVD optical drive as the primary boot device in BIOS, Puppy should boot without any problems.

What OS are you attempting to do this from.....some flavour of Linux, or Windows? Are you, in fact, using Tahrpup or Slacko yet?

BTW, in your previous thread, here, you never did let us know how you got the Puppy disc to boot.....despite marking it as 'Solved'. It would help to know, please.

I'm assuming you gave up on it.....?

Thank you Mike, I now have some CD burning software installed and that problem is solved.
I now know XP does not create bootable discs.
I have got Puppy Tahr and Precise as well as windows XP to boot from the grub4dos.
But I cant get slacko 6.3.0 to boot, I will try again from the CD slacko bootable I have now.
One further query, when you copy the files to the new folder, has all the files in the iso download to be copied in?
No Mike I have not given up on it 'I am hooked on Linux' you know what I mean.
Extra thought, when slaco attempts to boot from the dos it stops when reaching where is the personal file. Then comes on the tahr personal file. Off it starts to boot tahr.

Not in theory, no. In fact, all you need for Puppy to run is the Puppy-xxxxx.sfs file (the main Puppy file), the initrd.gz (the virtual ramdisk), the vmlinuz (the kernel), and, if the Pup in question has one, the zdrv (and/or adrv) sfs files, too. (These latter two contain all extra drivers, etc.)

In practice, when I'm doing a back-up, or setting-up a new Puppy, I simply copy the entire contents of the ISO/partition/directory. It's easier! The 'extra' stuff won't hurt, and the additional size is negligible (a couple of megs at most - if that.)

You might get on better trying Slacko 6.3.2. 6.3.0 was 'beta-quality', and contained a fair number of early, 'testing-stage' bugs. It was Mick Amadio's first 6-series Slacko, and a lot of new ideas were being trialled at the same time. Most of these were pretty much fixed with the release of 6.3.2.

This is a direct link to the ISO file at Ibiblio.org; don't worry about the UEFI stuff, modern Pups have been set up to check for BIOS type (whether MBR or UEFI), then auto-load the appropriate module, without the need for user input.
