@pianoforte361:-
It's very easy to run two (or more) Puppies from a single partition.
If that was me, I would do the following...
1 ) In sda5, I would create a new directory (folder). I would name this Slacko_630.
2 ) The beauty of Pup (and Linux in general) is that you don't
have to burn the ISO to a CD to run it; you can mount the ISO file itself, so as to 'look inside' it, and access the files within. From a running Tahrpup, I would click on the Slacko ISO file to mount it. A ROX-filer window will pop up, showing the contents of the ISO image. Leave this window open.
3 ) Open a second ROX-filer window on the new Slacko 630 directory you've just created. Highlight the contents of the first window, above; left-click & hold, and drag these across to the Slacko 630 window, and drop them there. In the little window that pops up, select 'Copy' (
not 'Move; you can copy a read-only file-system, but you can't move it, since it is 'locked' in that location.)
4 ) Go to Menu->System->Grub4DOS bootloader config (not legacy GRUB; you don't want this). Re-run through the Grub4DOS install procedure; you may wish to re-name things at the 'discovered' systems stage, before 'OK'-ing. Believe me, it really is quicker to do this than it is to manually add the second entry to 'menu.lst'. Puppy's been built to make life as easy as possible; you might as well take advantage of this.

That's all there is to it! Contrary to popular belief, this
will work; Grub4DOS will find the system files, kernel, etc, of Slacko 630, because Puppy's version of Grub4DOS has been specially 'tweaked' to search
TWO layers 'deep'.....it will search inside directories
within a partition, y'see.
----------------------------------------------------------
If you now re-boot, all things being equal, you'll find 'Slacko 630' has been added to the boot menu, and will be able to choose from 'Tahrpup', 'Slacko 630', or 'Windows' to boot into. Since sda5 will have the boot flag set (on sda's MBR), this also applies to the Slacko sub-directory, since this is inside that partition.
I'm assuming XP is on sda1, yes? If you have a look inside sda1 while in Tahr, you should see Grub4DOS's 'gldr', 'menu.lst' and 'menu-advanced.lst' files in there.
Trust me, it's a hell of a lot easier to install a second Puppy into
any kind of multi-boot setup once you already have a 'running' Puppy to work from... the more so, since Pup has all the necessary tools built-in.
The big advantage of all this is that to remove that particular Puppy (if you find you don't like it), all that is necessary is to delete the directory. Simples!
Puppy's my regular 'daily driver', and has been for a few years now. No need of anything else!
Hope that helps.
Mike.
