Preview Edit Box Greyed out on Particular Thread
Edit box on preview page was greyed out on particular thread.

I've never seen this before ...

I hit the "preview" button and the preview showed fine. But the edit box below it was greyed out and empty. This was reproducible in two senses: I hit the back button and then the preview button again with the same result. Also, after posting my response, I went back to post #1, hit quote, added some text, hit preview and again ended up with the greyed out box. I tried this on a different, arbitrary, thread and it worked fine.

The thread I was posting on: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...=1#post3387640

The contents of my address box when the problem was displayed: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...reply&t=693050

This was on a Mozilla 1.4 browser. I normally run with Privoxy, but I disabled Privoxy, with the same results.

(Previewing this post worked normally.)

So much for reproducibility ...

I just posted a second comment on that thread and everything worked fine.

It's possible it was a browser issue or temporary issue related to a javascript file not loading. If it happens again, please let us know.

I just had the same problem again on the same thread. This time (FWIW) the contents of my address bar is

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...reply&t=693080

I understand that it is early in the bug hunting process to be making sweeping pronouncements, but from the limited evidence so far I would say there is something about his particular thead. The vast majority of my posts on LQ have been made with this same Mozilla 1.4 browser. (I quess I am what would be called a slow adopter. ;) ) Maybe this just needs to be laid aside until (if ever) more evidence comes in to match against it.

I just had the same problem on this thread with the contents of my address bar:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...reply&t=694277

As with the first time, this was "reproducible" in the sense that I used the "back" button to edit my post and when I clicked "preview" I again had the problem. But that's how the problem on the other thread manifested but then turned out to not be consistent afterall.

I'll note that it has been 10 days and aprox 20 posts w/o seeing such a problem.

Assuming it happens again, are further reports from me useful?

I continue to have sporadic problems with this. It seem to be reproducible inasmuch as back button + editing (usually) + preview button gives the same result. As noted earlier, revisiting the thread later sometimes results in no problem.

I have verified the problem is not solved by disabling Privoxy. (I haven't tried skipping the proxy altogether. Maybe next time ...) Perhaps my old browser and the new LQ software just don't play well together? (The few times I've posted with (more or less) up-to-date Firefox or Seamonkey have not resulted in problems. But there is not enough data there to conclude anything statisticly meaningful.)

This issue does not seem related to LQ itself. It's possible that your old browser + hitting the back button + AJAX is the issue. I'm going to mark this as closed for now, but will re-open pending further information.
