I've got quite a bit of code (C++) that I would like to make public under GPL. I don't want to set up my own site for it; I'd like to get good exposure for it. What is the best place to put free stuff out for free? In general, it will just be headers and sources with simple examples and instructions, etc. Thanks.

Some place where people will specifically look for GPL *nix or independent code where I can upload a lib for free. I'd like people to actually consider using it for a useful purpose. Thanks.

I was thinking SourceForge since almost everything I download open-source wise I get there, but I wasn't sure about the source code thing; I didn't know if people go there for general code in addition to functional open-source software.

Rep:
Sourceforge is undoubtly hosting libraries too.
I would suggest you to license yours not under GPL, which can be too restrictive for a library, but LGPL or another license that do not forbid reusing code in a non GPL project.
This is a list class that has loads of complex sorting functionality. It's meant to be a component of persistent objects; those that will be around for extended periods. It isn't intended to be disposable (i.e. use it once like a std::vector). The release has a full tutorial and several examples. Only the DOS/Win version is showing, but if you click on the package you will see the POSIX one.
I put this one out there first because the largest of my projects relies on it, so I thought it should be releasable before started preparing the other one for release.
I am also working on releasing some auto functors, some virtual object networking stuff, and some encapsulation stuff. Thanks for your interest!
