My copy of the O'Reilly book, while "complete" in that it discusses all of the features, is dangerous in that it doesn't discuss all of the gotchas. Those gotchas can cost you hours and hours of pleasant debugging time.

Instead, get Programming with POSIX Threads, by Dave Butenhof, published by Addison Wesley.

Another five-star option is Programming With Threads, by Kleinman, Shah and Smaalders

Multithreaded programming with Pthreads is pretty good, don't know if it's still in print though since it was put out by Sun Microsystems
