soft_reboot


hi:
In the kernel of the linux, at setup_arch()
if (mdesc->soft_reboot)
reboot_setup("s");

here , what does the soft_reboot mean?

In general, soft reboot is the proper reboot you do, with the reboot command or shutdown -r, were the shutdown script start, terminating your applications, remounting your partitions read only , etc..

The hard reboot is by pressing the reboot button in your tower when the system freezes that directly sends a signal to your motherboard.
