RFID Reader to Login Entry and Exit

My client needs to track entry and exit of children in a certain facility. Presently it's manual. He thought about using ID cards with a bar code, but children will forget/lose those.

So now he thought of a "cool" bracelet that the kids will (hopefully they will like it) that has RFID built in.

So then we can track them that way.

My job now is to find a way to get the entry/exit data from an RFID reader into our database. The DB is Drupal, on a remote server of course. It seems I need to use some tool to connect to the local app that comes with the reader and then have my local tool send that data to Drupal.

Anyone have any experience with this?

There are many commercial vendors who offer well-thought-out solutions to this general problem. I suggest that your client should pursue these before considering "roll your own."

I’m actually not sure what you’re asking here. You’d need a way to process the app’s data (hopefully it’s text-based), and you’d need a way to get the data into the backend (hopefully it has a web service). Both are your problem.
