Preview in Qt designer

In qt designer is possible to preview forms in various widget styles. This behaves somewhat like an interpreter. Does anyone know how this is done?

I noticed that the preview in QT3 version of designer has many more styles. It is also possible to attach commands to buttons that work in preview mode - at least the exit command works. That was without writing any code. I saved a form & it saves to a .ui file that is xml. Is there an xml 'interpreter' built into designer that knows what to do with widgets and commands?
