open/query remote udp sockets in shell


Is it possible to do so? ...a linux shell script where i can query a remote ip : port via udp and then insert a command/get status ?

...any examples or help is very much welcome.

Take a look at netcat: http://netcat.sourceforge.net/
It probably could be shell scripted to do what u need.
