Hmm... perhaps you could use the old system to protoype since you like it so much, and use a more modern language (or set of Basic, at least) for your actual projects.
On the other hand, if you get good at a more modern language, why not just switch.
The only other option I can think of is to pick up maintenance of the gcc tree yourself and add your favorite language yourself. Rectify what won't work with the newer versions. I know this is a crap answer... but that is how every language made it into gcc other than C itself.
